Ty Brently Bernson, age 29, of 516 Montana Ave.; Gladstone, died Friday, January 9th, 2004, as a result of an accidental drowning on Little Bay de Noc near the Gladstone shore.
Ty was born to Roy and Janet "Jan" (McConnell Bernson on December 10th, 1974 in Munising.and moved to Gladstone at age 3 with his family.
He was a 1993 graduate of the Gladstone High School and a 1998 graduate of Ferris State College, receiving his B.S. Degree in criminal justice.
Ty began his career in Clare, MI with the Clare County Sheriff Dept. as a deputy until returning to Gladstone in November of 2000 when he began working in the same capacity for the Dickinson County Sheriff Dept. In the summer of 2001, Ty began his employment with the Menominee County Sheriff Department until August of 2002 when he became employed for the State of Michigan for the Alger County Maximum Correction Facility in Munising as a corrections officer. Ty was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed any outdoor activities. Family and friends remember him mostly as a loving, kind, and generous individual and he was known to receive great pleasure in anonymously assisting people. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
Ty Bernson's survivors include: his wife: the former Kristy J. Kline, whom he married May 28th, 2000 in Cadillac, MI; a 21 month old daughter: Aurora Naomi Bernson; a baby due to be born in 3 weeks; his parents: Roy and Janet "Jan" Bernson, of Gladstone. "Jan" is the owner of the "Clip-Art Gallery" of Gladstone; 3 Brothers: Roy (Pam Field) Bernson of Colorado Springs, CO; Troy (Rhonda) Bernson of Gladstone; Todd (Jackie) Bernson of Gladstone; Father-in-law: John Kline of Rid City, MI; Mother-in-law: Joan Kline of Lake City, MI; 2 nieces: Jenna and Haille Bernson of Gladstone; 3 nephews: Derek, Dylan, and Dayton Bernson of Gladstone; and aunts uncles and cousins
The family of Ty Brently Bernson will receive friends on Monday, January 12, at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and again of Tuesday, January 13th from 12:00 Noon to 1:30 p.m. Funeral services in the Episcopal faith celebrating Ty Bernson's life will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at All Saints Church in Gladstone with clergy of the Trinity Episcopal Church, Rev. Ellen Jensen and Rev. Fr. Rayford Ray, officiating. Luncheon will follow services in the All Saints Church Fellowship Hall. Burial will be in the Fernwood Cemetery; Gladstone. Ty's family respectfully requests memorials be directed to the family for memorial fund to be established for Ty's children. Envelopes will be available at the Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County who are assisting the Bernson family
