Gary R. Besson, 65, of 1219 Stephenson Ave. Escanaba, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at St. Francis Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Gary was born in Escanaba on November 2, 1938, the son of Ralph E. and Bernice (Vanlerberghe) Besson. He was a life long resident here. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and archery.
Gary was employed as a Public Safety Officer for 37 years with the city of Escanaba until his retirement in 1998. A U.S. Veteran, Gary served in the Air Force as a M.P. while stationed in Asia and Japan.
Gary Ralph Besson married Theresa Norine Tebear March 3, 1962. Together they owned and operated Jensen’s Pasty Shop in Escanaba for 5 years. Theresa preceded him in death on September 21,1994.
Gary is survived by one son: Ralph G. (Vera) Besson of Scotia, N.Y.; and one daughter: Lisa L. Besson of Escanaba; Two grandchildren: Sarah and Samantha Besson of Scotia, N.Y.; Four brother-in-laws: Jerry Tebear; David Tebear; James (Sandy) Tebear and Robert (Barbara) Tebear; One sister-in-law: Valerie (Dennis) Kivioja; and 22 nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife of 41 years, Theresa, Gary was preceded in death by one sister-in-law: Marilyn (Tebear) Waugh.
Friends may call at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba on Monday, February 2nd from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. The evening will close with the Delta County Veterans Council Service along with comments from his family and friends. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
