Bertha M. Myers 98 of 501 So. Lincoln Rd. Escanaba died at home on Friday, January 9, 2004.
She was born December 22,1905 in Racine, Wisconsin, the daughter of Herman and Florence (Smalle) Wittke, and had moved to Escanaba as a very young child.
Bertha had worked at the Boston Sweet Shoppe in Escanaba as a young girl for several years. In latter years she became the Handy-Craft Instructor and Playground Director for the City of EscanabaRecreation Dept.. A position she held for 13 years. During her tenure with the recreation department she was instrumental in starting and running Club 314. She moved to Sun City, Arizona and resided there for 36 years. While there she served on the City Council; was a member of the Board of Directors; did modeling for Drapers Boutiques and taught crafts on the T.V. Show Trash to Treasures.
She lived a full life and will be missed by her daughter: Gail (Irving) Houle of Escanaba.
5 Grandchildren: Stephen (Peggy) Houle of Escanaba, Peter Houle of Philadelphia, Penn., John (Lori) Houle of Escanaba, Mathew (Salli) Houle of Gladstone, Margo (Brian) Rout of Columbus, Indiana; 7 Great Grandchildren; 3 Great Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one Son: Glen LaChapell.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Bertha Myers will be held on Monday, January 12th at 3:00PM at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish with Fr. Francis Dobrzenski and Fr. William Callari officiating. Entombment will be in Gardens of Rest Cemetery. A lunch will be served in the church hall following the funeral mass.
