Rev. Fr. Arthur Parrotta

Rev. Fr. Arthur James Parrotta 80 of 3401 Ludington St. Escanaba, died in the Lord on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at Marquette General Hospital.

Father Parrotta was born on October 2, 1923, in Caspian, Michigan. He was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Marquette on June 3, 1950, at St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette, Michigan by Bishop Thomas L Noa. He received his seminary studies at the Salvatorian Seminary, St. Nazianz, Wisc.;Jordan Seminary, Menominee, Mich.; and St. Paul Seminary, St. Paul, Minn..

Father Parrotta’s Priestly assignments include: Associate Pastor at Immaculate Conception Parish, Iron Mountain, and St. Ambrose Parish, Ironwood; Instructor of Religion for the Carmelite Sisters in Iron Mountain; Administrator of St. Rose Parish, Channing; Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Engadine, and the Missions of St. Stephens, Naubinway; St. Timothy, Curtis; and St. Joseph, Gould City; Pastor of St. Edward Parish ,Alpha, and the Mission of St. Mary in Amasa; St. Mary Parish, Calumet; Church of the Nativity, Sault Ste. Marie, and Holy Family Mission, Barbeau; St. William Parish, Menominee; and St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Wells, retiring from Pastoral assignments on July 1,1993. Father Parrotta continued to serve in the diocese as Chaplain of OSF St. Francis Hospital, Escanaba, until the time of his death. In addition to his pastoral assignments, Father Parrotta served as Dean of the Sault Ste. Marie Deanery.

Fr. Parrotta is survived by 4 nieces and 4 nephews: Rita Parrotta of Gladstone, MI., Mary Ann Firorazo of Alexandria, Virginia, Mary Beth (Francois) Loup of Fairfield, Conn., Margaurite (Doug) Wills of Battle Creek, MI., Kim Drake of Reno, Nevada, Stephen Drake of California, Frank Parrotta of Virginia, Joseph (Charolette) Parrotta of Kingsford, MI; Many Cousins, Great Nieces & Great Nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 Sisters and 4 Brothers.

The Liturgical Rite of Receiving the body will be held on Sunday, January 11th at 3:00 PM at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Wells with visitation at the church from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Parish Prayers will be recited at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held at the church on Monday from 9:00 AM until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Escanaba. A lunch will be served following the service in the Fr. Parrotta Hall at Church.
