Duane C. Hoffmann, age 72, of 5184 Sharkey 19.9 Lane, Gladstone, MI died Friday morning February 13, 2004 at Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba following a lengthy illness. Duane was born September 11, 1931 in Marshfield, WI the son of Chester Michael and Anna Marie (Baumann) Hoffmann. He attended catholic school in Marshfield before serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Upon being honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force following the Korean War, he returned to Gladstone. He was united in marriage to Janet Mae Rappette on July 28, 1956 and she preceded him in death on May 3, 1981. Duane was first employed at the Buckeye Veneer Plant in Gladstone before working and retiring from Mead Corporation where he was a Supervisor for the #1 Paper Machine System Conversion.
Duane was a member of the Rapid River American Legion Post #301 and Holy Family Church in Flat Rock where he participated in the Holy Name Smear League. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed playing pool. He loved being at his camp in LaBranche and especially enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, the former Mary Verbrigghe who he married on September 19, 1983. 3 Sons: Douglas (Mary) Hoffmann of Gladstone, Daniel (Sue) Hoffmann of Cornell, MI, Michael (Opal) Hoffmann of Gladstone; 1 Daughter: Mary Jo (Daniel) Lambert of Gladstone; 3 Step Sons: Dale King of Gladstone, James King of Gladstone, Kevin (Pam) King of Escanaba; 2 Sisters: Mary Ann (Edward) Reichelt of Grafton, WI, Ruth Hoffmann (Sr. Marie Joanna O.P.) of North Riverside, IL; 9 Grandchildren: Amber, Christina, Adam, Ashley, Erin, Shannon, Kent, Nicholas and Kristin; 1 Great Granddaughter: Analise; Numerous Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Janet, he was preceded in death by a brother Michael.
Duanes family will receive friends on Monday from 2:00 P.M. to 5:45 P.M. at the Holy Family Church in Flat Rock. Military rites conducted by Rapid River American Legion Post #301 will follow at 5:45 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial services celebrating the life of Duane C. Hoffmann will follow at 6:00 P.M. at Holy Family Church with Rev. Fr. Frank Lenz officiating. Luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone. The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes are assisting the Hoffmann family.
