Gloria L. Johnson, age 80, of 8219 27.4 Lane; Rapid River, died Thursday, February 19th, 2004, at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba where she was a patient for the previous two days.
Gloria was born April 10th, 1923 in Perkins, the daughter of Louis and Gladys (Doolittle) Haefs and was raised in the Gladstone and Perkins areas and she was a graduate of the Perkins High School. She married Keith D. Johnson May 17th, 1942 and has resided in the Rapid River area since. Keith Johnson passed away in 1976.
Gloria was a longtime active member of the Calvary Lutheran Church of Rapid River and was employed there as the church secretary-treasurer for a number of years and continued working there in that capacity until age 52. She subsequently became an employee of the Rapid River School System as a cook until her retirement.
Gloria was also a member of the Omni Center in Rapid River and held offices with that organization for a period of time.
In addition, she enjoyed reading, golfing, traveling, vegetable and flower gardening, berry picking, and going to camp with her family. She also enjoyed playing cards and had belonged to smear leagues in the past.
Gloria Johnson survivors include:
1 Son- Dwayne (Lori) Johnson of Beaverton, MI
1 Daughter-Sandy (Walter- "Wally" Flinn of Escanaba
1 Brother-Roland (LouAnn) Haefs of Newhope, MN
10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Keith, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianne Paquette, in 1997 and by a sister, Betty Burmeister, in 2001.
The family of Gloria L. Johnson will receive friends on Sunday at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid River from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00p.m. Funeral services celebrating Gloria Johnsons life will follow on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at the Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Stephen Gauger officiating. Luncheon will follow services in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be in the Rapid River Cemetery.
