Dorothy Florence Nelson

Dorothy “Dot” Florence Nelson, age 82, of 16 Cole Street, Rapid River, MI, died Tuesday morning February 17, 2004, at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette where she was a patient.

Dorothy was born June 8, 1921 in Forsyth, GA, the daughter of Walter Thomas and Mary Elizabeth (Murdock) Kersey. She was raised in Thomaston, GA, and graduated in 1941 from Robert E. Lee High School. Following graduation she served in the WAAC during WW II from 1943 to 1947. Upon her honorable discharge in 1947 she relocated to the Gladstone area. She was united in marriage to George Nelson on November 7, 1960, in Escanaba and they made their residence in Rapid River.

Dot worked for the Gladstone Reporter for several years and later for Rabitoy Nursing Home for five
years. She was a member of the Rapid River American Legion Post #301 and she enjoyed fishing and playing bingo.

Survivors include:
2 Sons: Jack (Lori) Eldridge of Marquette, MI, James (Bonnie) Nelson of Iron Mountain, MI
2 Sisters: Margaret (Burch) Fannin of Rockmart, GA, Judy Weissert of Escanaba, MI
2 Grandchildren and 2 Step-Grandchildren
Numerous Nieces and Nephews

In addition to her parents, her husband George preceded her in death on October 23, 2002.

Dots family will receive friends on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military rites conducted by Rapid River American Legion Post #301 will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Luncheon will follow at the Rapid River American Legion Post.
