Robert L. Johnson
Resided in Curtis, MI
Died April 12, 2004

Robert L. Johnson, age 77, former Curtis, Michigan resident, and also formerly of Northwoods Assisted Living of Escanaba, died Monday, April 12th, 2004 at the Norlite Nursing Center in Marquette where he was currently residing.

Bob was born March 8th, 1927 in Duluth, Minnesota, the son of Olaf and Nettie (Thompson) Johnson and was raised in Cloquet, MN. After his high school graduation, he attended college and he completed his academic studies at the University of Minnesota-Duluth with a degree in psychology. Bob entered the US Army during the World War II era and was later honorably discharged as an MP after his completed tour of duty.

He subsequently married the former Jean Ann Mickelson and she preceded him in death. Bob was also preceded in death by his second wife, the former Zola Kaiser.

Bob lived in various locations, including Whittier, CA,  Marquette, and Newberry. He had also lived in Curtis for a number of years before relocating to Escanaba 5 years ago.  

Most of his working career was spent at the Newberry State Hospital as a social worker and later as Director of Community Relations for the hospital until his retirement. Bob was known by family and friends as a highly intelligent individual and of independent nature.

Robert L. Johnson’s survivors include:

3 Sons-Thomas (Margaret) Johnson of Appleton, WI, Jay Johnson of New Hampshire, Jeffrey (Tina) Johnson of Olympia

1 Daughter- Jennifer Sommers of Oshkosh, WI

7 grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wives, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Coffey.

Upon Bob Johnson’s request, there will be no public funeral services, however, prayers from family and friends are appreciated. The family respectfully requests memorials in Bob’s behalf be directed to a charity of one’s choice.  The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Johnson family.
