Doris L. Schramm

Doris L. Schramm, 89, of 1401 North 23rd Street, Escanaba and former Rapid River area resident, died April 7, 2004 at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.

Doris was born February 8, 1915 in Wells, MI, the daughter of George and Ellen  (Englund) Anderson.  She was raised in the Delta County area and attended the Escanaba schools.  Following school, Doris went on to work for the old St. Francis Hospital.  On November 22, 1941, Doris married her loving husband, Randolph Schramm, in Rapid River.  Following their marriage, Doris and Randolph moved to Detroit, MI and while in Detroit, both Doris and Randolph found factory work during the WWII era.  After living in Detroit for a few years, the couple made their way back to Rapid River.   Doris eventually went on to work for the Rapid River Public School system, cooking for the Rapid River School for 13 years until her retirement in 1976.  Doris and Randolph resided in Rapid River until Randolph’s death in September of 1981.  Shortly after Randolph’s death, Doris moved to Escanaba and resided there until this present day.

Doris enjoyed planting flowers, baking cookies, and pies.  She also enjoyed playing cards, going to bingo, and going to the casino.  Doris was a member of the School Retirees Association and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Doris will be remembered for always taking care of her family even when she was ill herself. 

In addition to her parents George and Ellen, Doris is preceded in death by her husband Randolph Schramm, and her infant daughter, Diane Schramm.

Doris leaves to survive: 
2 Sons:  Robert (Geri) Schramm of Rapid River, MI
Terry (Roxanne) Schramm of Rapid River, MI
1 Daughter:  Gayle (Dave) Moras of Escanaba, MI
1 Brother:  George “Clifford” Anderson of Escanaba, MI
Twin Sister:  Claris Lorenson of Escanaba, MI

She also leaves to survive, 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00PM to 2:00PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.  Funeral service celebrating the life of Doris L. Schramm will follow visitation at 2:00PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone with Pastor Peter Andersen from Christ the King Lutheran Church officiating.  A brunch will be provided following funeral services at the new American Legion Walter W. Cole Post #301in Rapid River.  Burial will be on Monday at 11:00AM at the Rapid River Cemetery.  The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Schramm family with arrangements.
