Joseph Edward Valencic, Sr., age 77, of 9431 Bay Shore Drive; Gladstone (Kipling area), died unexpectantly on Sunday April 25th, 2004 at home of an apparent heart attack.
Joe was born June 18th, 1926 in Kipling, the son of Anton Valencic Sr. and the former Katherine Medvedic who were Croatian immigrants to the area. He was a lifelong resident of Kipling and was a 1944 graduate of the Gladstone High School and entered military service in the US Army in 1945 where he received numerous awards and citations during the occupation of Japan. After his honorable discharge in 1946, he returned to Delta County and was employed for Morley-Murphy Co. for 18 years and later in construction work until his retirement.
Joe was a member of All Saints Church, Croatian Fraternal Union, and the Laborers Union Local in Escanaba. He was an avid reader and enjoyed wood-working, landscaping and generally loved the outdoors and nature.
Joes children will always remember him as a wonderful and loving father and a dear friend and he will be sadly missed by them.

1 Daughter-Jody (Joseph) Bugay of Gladstone
1 Brother-Tony (Vivian Mabry) Valencic of Sacramento, CA
2 Grandchildren, Nicole and Jeremy Valencic
And a special niece, Rosalind Heck of Los Angeles, CA
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Rudy Valencic in 1945 and by a sister, Mary C. Valencic in 1992.
Upon Joe Valencics request, there will be no public visitation and funeral service. Private visitation and services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone with Deacon Rod Groleau officiating. Burial will be in the Fernwood Cemetery. However, prayers of support for his family are appreciated. The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Valencic family. |
