Basil Poe

Basil Hall "B.H." Poe, age 90, of 9504 Bayshore Drive, Gladstone, MI died unexpectedly Sunday morning May 2, 2004 at home. Basil was born March 3, 1914 in Durham, North Carolina the son of Bassel Hall and Maude Alberta (Barnes) Poe Sr. He was raised in Durham and was a graduate of Edward K. Powe High School. He was united in marriage to the former Mozelle Holler on November 16, 1934 in Danville, Virginia. They made their residence in Duham, NC until they relocated to Gladstone in 1991. Mozelle preceded him in death on March 13, 1994. B.H. worked for the U.S. Postal service in Durham for 37 years retiring in 1976. He was active in his church at Westwood Baptist Church in Durham, N.C. where he was a Deacon and also taught Sunday school. He was a former Boy Scout leader and enjoyed playing golf and reading Louis L'amour novels. He loved to travel and especially spending time at the beach. While in Gladstone he attended church with his son and daughter-in-law at All Saints Church in Gladstone.

David (Jessica) Poe of Perkins, MI
Suzanne (Scott) Miller of Kalamazoo, MI

4 Great Grandchildren:
Aubrey and Evan Chouinard of Cornell, MI
Trevor and Mason LaChance of Perkins, MI

1 Sister: Cathren (James) Brooks of Siler City, North Carolina

2 Nieces, 2 Nephew and 1 special Cousin, R.T. Jones, Durham, NC.

In addition to his parents and wife, Basil was preceeded in death by one sister, Katherine Chandler.

Basil's family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Committal services will follow at the funeral home at 6:00 P.M. with Rev. Arnold Grambow of All Saints Church officiating.
