Shirley E. Rodman, age 90, of 1420 Minnesota Avenue,
Gladstone, MI died Monday evening June 7, 2004 at the
Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba where
she was a patient for the past 6 months.
Shirley was born May 24, 1914 in Peshtigo WI the
daughter of Charles and Minnie (Fenner) Fitzloff. She
was raised in Peshtigo until the age of 4 when her
family relocated to Gladstone. She attended Gladstone
High School and graduated in 1932. She was united in
marriage to John Rodman on November 30, 1940 at All
Saints Church in Gladstone. During WW II while John
was stationed at Ft. Custer, Shirley worked at
Kelloggs Cereal in Battle Creek preparing combat food
rations. They returned to Gladstone following the
war. John preceded her in death on October 4, 1992.
Shirley was a lifelong member of St. Paul Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Gladstone where she was active in
the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed knitting, playing cards,
cooking and tending to her flower gardens.

Andrew Wood of Portland, OR
Gregory (Nichole) Wood of Iron Mountain, MI
Lindsay Kaufman of Waterford, MI
5 great granddaughters: Deserae, Tiffany, Maya,
twins Jessica and Jera
1 great grandson: Aidan
Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was
preceded in death by her brother, Reuben Fitzloff in
1942 at the age of 25, and a grandson, William Wood
Jr. in 1976.
Shirleys family will receive friends on Friday from
3:30 P.M. to 5:30 P.M. at the Salem Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Escanaba. Funeral services
celebrating the life of Shirley E. Rodman will follow
at 5:30 P.M. at the church with Rev. Philip Paustian
of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church and Rev.
Richard Winters of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church
officiating. Luncheon will follow services in the
church fellowship hall. Burial will be on Saturday at
Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells, MI. The
Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes are assisting the
