Lela Lee

Died August 24, 2004

Lela M. Lee, age 87, of 2900 3rd Avenue South, Bishop Noa Home; Escanaba and former resident of Gladstone, died Sunday August 22, 2004, at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba. 

Lela was born October 23, 1916, in Resaca, Georgia, the daughter of William and Savanah (Akens) Stone.  She attended school in Georgia and following her years in school, Lela went to work in the cotton fields for her family during her adolescent years.  Lela and her family eventually relocated to Texas where they remained for many years.  Lela married Carl E. Lee and the couple made their home in Texas for several years before eventually settling in the Gladstone area.  Lela became a resident at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba when her health began to decline.  She was well known for her interest in crafts and she especially liked crocheting.  Lela is remembered for always having a pot of coffee on for visitors to enjoy.  She loved to have conversation and  always had her crafts available for the folks who stopped by.

Survivors include: 

1 Daughter:  Linda (Dale) Cochrane of Green Bay, WI

2 Step-Daughters:  Jeanette (Harry) Hamlin of Battle Creek,  MI, Nancy Parish of Battle Creek, MI

The Lee family would like to express a special thank you to daughter-in-law, Judy Lee for all her help and care for Lela over the years. 

Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

In addition to her parents, William and Savanah, and her husband, Carl, Lela was preceded in death by:

3 Sons:  Kenneth P. Lee, Roy E. Lee Sr., Carl R. Lee

3 Sisters:  Mary Anton,Bessie Smith, Susie Whitley

2 Brothers:  John Stone, Robert Stone
Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12:00PM to 2:00PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.  Funeral services celebrating the life of Lela M. Lee will follow visitation at 2:00PM, at the Skradski Funeral Home, with Rev. Jonathan Schmidt of the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone officiating.  Committal service will follow at the Fernwood Cemetery.
