Joan O. Hereau-Oden, age 73, of 706 49th A. Drive East, Bradenton, FL. (formerly of Rapid River) died Monday September 13, 2004 at the Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, FL following a brief illness.

Joan was born January 8, 1931 in Escanaba, MI the daughter of Paul and Lillian (Dubois) Hebert. She was raised in Escanaba and attended Escanaba High School. She returned to school later in life and received her diploma from Gladstone High School in 1976.

Joan was united in marriage to Victor R. Hereau Sr. on August 21, 1948 and they resided in Rapid River and spent their winter month’s in Bradenton, FL. Victor preceded her in death on August 7, 1999. Joan married Harold E. Oden on June 2, 2003 in Huntington, Indiana. They resided in Bradenton, FL. and Huntington, Indiana.

Joan was a former member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Rapid River and All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone and most recently was attending Bethel Assembly of God Church in Huntington, Indiana with her husband Harold.

Joan enjoyed working, and she had been previously employed by Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba, Eaton Corporation in Gladstone for 23 years, and she retired from C.F.I. Corporation in Bradenton, FL in 2002. She did volunteer work for the Markle Library in Markle, Indiana. Along with working, Joan’s hobbies included sewing, crocheting, playing bingo and making pasties at St. Charles Church in Rapid River.

3 Sons: Victor (Brenda) Hereau of Gladstone, MI, Joseph (Kelcey) Hereau of West Melbourne, FL, Terry (Ann) Oden of Huntington, IN

4 Daughters: Carol (Barry) King of Gladstone, MI, Pat (Ron) Smith of Gladstone, MI, Penny (Giang) Truong of Sacramento, CA, Linda (Gary) Hutchinson of Huntington, IN

3 Brothers:Harry Hebert of West Palm Beach, FL, Roy (Gerry) Hebert of Moorseville, IN, Paul Hebert of Valrico, FL

4 Sisters: Merieda (William) Charlebois of Escanaba, MI, Sister Dorothy Jean Hebert of Manitowac, WI, Loyola (Walter) Gardner of Bradenton, FL, Joyce (Buzz) Pearson of Niles, MI

16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, numerous
nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and 1st husband, Victor,
she was preceded in death by:
1 brother: Reese
3 Sisters: Jeanette, Florence and Ann

Joan’s family will receive friends on Friday September 24, 2004 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Parish prayers led by Rev. Richard Schaeffer will follow at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial services celebrating the life of Joan Hereau Oden will be held on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph/St.Patrick Catholic Church in Escanaba with Rev. Richard Schaeffer officiating. Luncheon will follow services in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be in Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells, MI.
