Richard W. “The Chief” Kurth, age 62, of 7087 L.5 Lane, Soo Hill, died Thursday afternoon September 16, 2004 at home following a lengthy illness with cancer.
Richard was born July 11, 1942 in Escanaba the son of Otto and Hilda (Plutchak) Kurth. He was raised in Escanaba and attended Escanaba High School. He had worked in Chicago for the Railroad for several years before returning to Escanaba and heworked as a Foreman for Sub Surface Contruction. Richard was a member of the Escanaba Local #1329 and his hobbies included hunting, gardening and working in his yard. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

His wife, the former Karen Trattles whom he married on
February 14, 1981 in Gladstone.

3 Daughters:Lori (Bill) Kurth-Telford of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Rhonda Kurth Trotten of San Diego, CA, Krista Kurth at home
1 Brother: Albert (Liz) Kurth of Escanaba
3 Sisters: Marilyn Closs of Escanaba, Louise Kurth of Escanaba, Betty VanHorn of Green Bay, WI
1 Grandson: Dustin Totten of San Diego, CA
Numerous Nieces and Nephews
Mother-in-law: Mary Trattles of Iron River, MI
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by several brothers.
According to Richard’s request, private visitation and services for the family will be held at the family home. The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes are assisting the Kurth family.
