Richard LeClaire

Died September 11, 2004

Richard E. “Dick” LeClaire, age 64, of 2722 South Hill Road Lot #12; Gladstone, died Saturday, September 11th, 2004 at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba where he was a patient for the previous week.

Richard was born September 6th, 1940 in Gladstone, the son of Fred and Opal (Pierce) LeClaire and moved to Nahma as a child with his family and attended school there.  In  his early working life, he  worked as a woods-worker. He married the former Marilyn Kouture in Manistique July 26th, 1958 and after their marriage, they moved to Milwaukee where he was employed at “Rex Chain Belt Co.”

Richard and his married family returned to Delta County in 1968 moving to Wells and was employed for “Bancroft Dairy Co.” He subsequently became self-employed and owned and operated “LeClaire Janitorial” for a number of years. Later, Richard and his wife purchased “Mac’s Bar and Restaurant” on US 2 in the St. Jacques area which they sold in 1989. Afterword, Richard managed the Gladstone Golf Course until his illness prevented him from working. Richard and Marilyn moved to their present location in Gladstone five years ago.

He was a member of “Woody’s Run” Golf Course, and Teamsters Union International.

In addition to golf, Richard enjoyed the outdoors and hunting and going to his camp. However, his grandchildren were his greatest source of enjoyment.

3 Daughters- Cindy (Kevin) Jacobsen of Gladstone, Sherry (Tim) Beck of Illinois, Debbie (Randy) Stilson of Minnesota

1 Brother- Frank (Elaine) LeClaire of Iron Mountain
2 Sisters-Lillian (Maynard) Mast of Isabella, Doreen Mercier of Rapid River a brother-in-law, Dorman Lyda, 2 sisters-in-law, Vonnie and Jessie LeClaire

9 grandchildren- Amy and Melissa Jacobson; Richard, Nicholas, Christopher, and Jennifer Becker; Leah and Breanna LeClaire; and Amber Stilson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Keith, and Donald LeClaire; by two sisters, Donna Cartwright and Kathleen Lyda; brothers-in-law, Albert “Beno” Mercier, Everette Cartwright, and Wallace Cartwright.

The family of Richard E. “Dick” LeClaire will receive friends on Monday, September 13th at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Services celebrating Richard’s life will follow on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home with Deacon Rod Groleau officiating. Burial will be in  the Fernwood Cemetery; Gladstone.
