Ernest LaBumbard

Ernest “Jim” E.J. LaBumbard, age 76, of 5796 Chaison 23.5 Road Gladstone (EscanabaTwp.) died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon, October 17th, 2004, at home of an apparent heart attack.

“E.J.” was born September 11th, 1928 in Rapid River the son of Joseph and Stella (LaFave) LaBumbard  and has lived in various locations including Lathrop, Gladstone, and Flat Rock areas. E.J. has resided at his present location since 1981.

“E.J.” was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army in the Pacific Theater.

He married the former Rita M. Paquin September 15th, 1949 at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock and she preceded him in death September 14th, 2000. Together with his wife, “E.J.” was self-employed, having owned and operated “E.J. LaBumbard Trucking” most of his working life.

In addition to fishing, his dog, “Heidi”, was a great source of enjoyment to him and he was also a life-time member of the North American Hunting Club. However, his work was a major source of satisfaction to him. “E.J.”s family and friends remember him as a free spirit and as a unique, humorous, and interesting character and anyone who knew him, will not forget his remarkable personality.

5 Sons- Wayne (Dawn Hawk) LaBumbard of Gladstone, Kenny (Annie) LaBumbard of Gladstone, Marty (Kathy Brower) LaBumbard of Gladstone, Rodney LaBumbard of Gladstone, Ricky (Becky Kuehl) LaBumbard of Gladstone

1Daughter- Susie (Les)  Owens of Wausau, WI

2 Sisters- Doris “Toodie” (Cliff) Carlson of Rock, Virginia “Jean” Carlson of Gladstone

9 grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Also leaving to survive “E.J” is a loving and devoted companion, Pauline Wallinger. The family appreciates Pauline’s role in their father’s life the last couple of years and acknowledges that her committed presence in his life has made “E.J.”s last years a more quality time.

The family of Ernest “Jim” E.J. LaBumbard will receive friends on Wednesday at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Services celebrating the life of E.J. LaBumbard will follow on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Arnold Grambow officiating. Luncheon will follow services at the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post #71. The Skradski-Boyce Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the LaBumbard family.
