Kay E. Hampton, 57, of 7694 North Lake Bluff 0.5 Drive, Gladstone, MI died unexpectedly Wednesday
morning December 29, 2004 at the Marquette General Hospital in Marquette where she was a patient. Kay was born June 12, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of Lawrence "Larry" and June (Willcutts) Janeway and was raised in Walled Lake, MI. She was a graduate of Huntsville High School in Huntsville, Alabama. Kay continued her education at the University of Montevallo and later transferred to Northern Michigan University where she met and married Gerald "Jerry" Hampton. They were united in marriage on July 13, 1968 in Hancock, MI. Following their marriage they lived in Oconto, WI where Kay taught 5th grade at the St. Joseph Parochial School in Oconto until 1973 when they relocated to Escanaba. Kay continued working in the education field working at the Escanaba Day Care, Delta-Schoolcraft I.S.D. and later at the Escanaba Public Schools, retiring in 1999.
She was an active member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Gladstone where she was involved in the J.O.Y., and Logos programs, and made the Baptism Banners for the church sanctuary. She did volunteer work as a "reading buddy" at Cameron Elementary School and the After School Program at Jones Elementary School. Her family was very important to her, especially her two grandchildren. She loved to go camping and traveling and to spend time with her family. Her hobbies included sewing and making baby blankets for her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

MI
1 Sister: Ann (Murel) Bartley of Rochester Hills, MI
1 Step-Brother: Jim (Beverly) Zimmerman of San Francisco, CA
Numerous Nieces and Nephews
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her step-father, Edwin Zimmerman.
Kay's family will receive friends on Sunday January 2, 2005 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the Memorial United Methodist Church in Gladstone. Funeral services celebrating the life of Kay E. Hampton will follow at 4:00 P.M. at the church with Rev. Joanne Bartelt and Rev. Richard Winters officiating. Luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Kay may be directed to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bay Area, Memorial United Methodist Church or to the Delta County Cancer Alliance. Envelopes will be available at the Memorial United Methodist Church or at the Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes. |
