Ruth Sundberg, age 80, of 10085 Hwy U.S. 2 Rapid River, died early Monday morning December 13, 2004 at her home, in Rapid River, with her husband Ron at her side.
Ruth was born June 8, 1924, in Columbus, OH, the daughter of Graham and Dorothy (Ingram) Widdis, who preceded her in death. She was raised and attended schools in Ohio and following her years in school, Ruth went to work for Curtis/Wright at North American Aviation, during the Korean War. Ruth remained in the Columbus area until the late 50’s before relocating to the Rapid River area where on October 13, 1962, she married Ronald Sundberg at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid River. Together the couple made their home in the Rapid River area where they lived and raised their family.
Over the years, Ruth worked for the Capital Business Service and the Bridgewood Health Care Facility. Ruth was elected and served as the Masonville Township Treasurer; she belonged to the Ladies Fellowship Club and the Rapid River American Legion Post #301 Auxiliary. Ruth was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid River and for many years served as the church treasurer. She also enjoyed sewing and swimming. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include: Her husband of 42 years, Ronald Sundberg.
3 Sons: Mike (Mary) Larrabee of Rapid River, MI; Pat (Francie) Larrabee of Rapid River, MI; Scott (Sara) Sundberg of Jackson, MI
1 Daughter: Gail Sundberg of Fort Meyers, FL
2 Brothers: Pete Widdis of Manistique, MI; Boyd (Allison) Widdis of Manistique, MI
2 Cousins: Richard (Molly) and Mike (Linda) Widdis
Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Graham and Dorothy, Ruth was preceded in death by her stepmother Marie Widdis.
Family will receive friends on Friday from 3:00PM to 5:00PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services celebrating the life of Ruth Sundberg will follow visitation, at the funeral home, with Rev. Stephen Gauger from the Calvary Lutheran Church officiating. Luncheon will follow funeral services at the Calvary Lutheran Church fellowship hall. Committal services will be held at the Rapid River Cemetery at the convenience of the Sundberg family. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Calvary Lutheran Church of Rapid River. Envelopes will be available at the Skradski Funeral Home. The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Sundberg Family with all arrangements. |
