Raymond R. Waeghe

Died Dec. 22, 2004

Raymond R. Waeghe, age 77, of 318 North 16th Street; Escanaba, died Wednesday afternoon, December 22nd, 2004, at the Christian Park Village in Escanaba where he was a patient for the previous three weeks.

Ray was born April 27th, 1927 in Gladstone, the son of August and Fannie (Anderson) Waeghe and was raised in Kipling.

He entered the Armed Forces with the US Navy in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1946, and remained in the Navel Reserve until 1954. After Ray returned from the Navy, he married the former Jean M. Doutre on July 23rd, 1947 at St. Joseph Church in Escanaba and they have made their home in Escanaba. Ray and Jean have lived at their present location in Escanaba since 1963.

In his early working years, Ray was employed at Scott Dairy in Gladstone for a brief period of time. He subsequently began his long career with Pearson Supply Co. in Escanaba as boiler installer, sheet metal fabricator, and air-conditioning workman. Ray enjoyed his work and was well respected in his field. He retired at age 62. Ray Waeghe was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Escanaba and a former member of the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post # 71.

Ray’s friends and family remember him as loving the outdoors with camping and going to camp where many priceless memories were forged that will always be held dear by all. In addition, he was an avid hunter and snowmobiler. His family, however, was the most important aspect of his life and he will be sadly missed by them, but their love and respect for him will always carry on.    

In addition to his loving wife, Jean, Ray Waeghe’s survivors include:

2 Sons- Allan (Pat) Waeghe of Gladstone; Wayne Waeghe of Escanaba

2 Daughters- Barbara (James) West of Gladstone; Janet (Gary) Johnson of Gladstone

12 grandchidren, 7 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, August and Fannie Waeghe, and by a brother, Charles “Sonny” Waeghe.

The family of Raymond R. Waeghe will receive friends on Monday at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Services celebrating Ray’s life will follow on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Rick Courier officiating. Luncheon will follow services at the All Saints Church Parish Hall in Gladstone. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery; Escanaba. The Skradski-Boyce family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Waeghe family.
