Emma Lindquist

Emma J. Lindquist, age 94, of Gladstone died Sunday, January 23, 2005, at the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba where she was a patient for the previous eight years.

Emma was born July 13th, 1910 in Duluth, Minnesota, the daughter of Peter and Olina (Olson) Peterson and was raised in Duluth. She relocated to Manistique at age 15 with her parents until moving to Nebraska to work in a munitions plant during World War II. After the war’s end, Emma moved to the Chicago area where she was employed as a file supervisor for Bell Federal Savings and Loan Co. for a number of years. She married Arnold R. Lindquist February 1st, 1940 in Gladstone and after their retirement, they returned to Delta County, settling in Gladstone. Arnold preceded her in death June 27th, 1997.

Emma Lindquist was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Gladstone and its’ various women’s circles.

She was known to have enjoyed sewing, cooking, and playing cards. Her family and friends remember her as a good, kind, loving, and gentle women with a sense of natural style and demeanor. Emma’s family was the most important aspect of her life and her devoted family has the utmost respect and pride in her. Emma was just a delight to be around and she will be sadly missed.

Emma J. Lindquist’s survivors include:

2 Sons- Milton (Rita) Lindquist of Gladstone; William (Lucy) Helland of Gladstone

6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews

Brother-in-law; Robert Harris of Hampton, VA

Sister-in-law; Ruby Bjorklund of Gladstone

In addition to her parents and her husband, Arnold, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert “Connie” Helland and Peter Helland, and by a sister, Tina Helland Pasell.

The family of Emma J. Lindquist will receive friends on Wednesday at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 200 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Services celebrating Emma’s life will follow on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev. Jonathan Schmidt officiating. Luncheon will follow services at the First Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Burial will be in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery; Wells. Memorials may be directed to the First Lutheran Church and envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Lindquist family.
