Doris Aalto

Died February 17, 2005

Doris M. “Do” Aalto, age 68, of 941 Maple Ridge West 37th Road; Rock, died Thursday evening, February 17th, 2005 at the Christian Park Health Care Facility in Escanaba where she was a patient for the previous two months.

Doris was born July 19th, 1936 in Escanaba, the daughter of Toivo and Hilma (Salo) Hill and was raised in the Rock area. She resided most of her life in Rock and was a graduate of the Gwinn High School.

She married Howard A. Aalto July 11th, 1955 in Gwinn and he survives.

Doris’s family was all important to her and her family considered her a wonderful and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Despite her illnesses, she always enjoyed keeping busy and took pleasure in gardening, crocheting, crafts, and she was known as a talented seamstress. Doris also loved canvass oil-painting, particularly mountain scenes and she was an avid stamp and coin collector as well. In addition, she had a fondness for the outdoors, which included hunting.

In addition to her devoted husband of 50 years, Howard, Doris Aalto survivors include:

2 Sons- Gregory Aalto of Rock; Jeffrey (Faith) Aalto of Escanaba

2 Daughters- Elizabeth (Matthew) Coatsworth of Vienna, VA; Brenda (Fred) Ahtila of Kalamazoo, MI

Her father, Toivo Hill of Gladstone

1 Brother- Gerald Hill of Athens, MI

1 Sister- Virginia Linjala of Rock

10 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her mother, Hilma Salo Hill, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Darlene Ahlgren and Linda Jokela, an infant brother, Vern Allen Hill, and by a brother, Vern Charles Hill.

The family of Doris M. Aalto will receive friends on Tuesday at the Rock Bible Chapel from1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Services celebrating her life will follow on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Rock Bible Chapel with Rev. John Small officiating. Luncheon will follow services at the Rock Bible Chapel. Burial will be in the Rock Cemetery.
