Arnold T. “Bud” Fyhr, age 80, of 1505 Dakota Ave.; Gladstone, died Sunday, February 6th, 2005, at the home of his daughter, Kathy Fyhr , in Gladstone.
Arnold was born October 20th, 1924 in Michigan City, Indiana, the son of Oscar and Matilda (Peterson) Fyhr and later entered military service with the US Army. He served during World War II in both the European and Pacific Theaters and later during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge, he relocated to Gladstone where he has resided since.
In earlier working years, Arnold was employed for his father-in-law, George Pada, who owned and operated a service station in Kipling and later for Merrick Seeley in Gladstone as a welder. He subsequently worked for Harnischfeger Corp in Escanaba before becoming a postal carrier for the US Postal Service in Gladstone. He retired form the postal service after many years employment with the post office. However, he continued to stay active, working with his daughter, Kathy, at her business, “Fish and More”, on Third Avenue North in Escanaba.
Arnold was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Gladstone and the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post #71. In addition to going to work, he enjoyed the outdoors, going to his camp in Stonington, and spending time with his family.
Arnold “Bud” Fyhr’s survivors include:
1 Son-Donald (Linda Gray) Fyhr of Gladstone
2 Daughters- Kathy (Michael Maskart) Fyhr of Gladstone; Janice (Richard) Rabitoy of Sheboygan, WI
1 Brother- Richard (Young Ja) Fyhr of Gladstone
1 Sister- Nancy (Charles) Iler of Michigan City, Indiana
5 Grand-children, Jessica St John, Stacey Osby, Ashley and David Fyhr, and Craig (Lynn) Griggs
1 Great-grandchild, Camden Griggs
and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Barry Fyhr, in 1979, one daughter, Judy Fyhr, March 3rd, 2004, and two sisters, Junette Fische and Alice (Charles) Morgan.
The family of Arnold T. “Bud” Fyhr will receive friends on Thursday at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with Military Rites being conducted at 5:45 p.m. by the Gladstone American Legion. Services celebrating Arnold’s life will follow on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone with Rev. Jonathan Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the Fernwood Cemetery. The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes are assisting the Fyhr family. |
