Agnes L. Vandrese, age 92, of 1608 Minneapolis Ave.; Gladstone, died Saturday, February 5th, 2005, at the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba where she was a patient for the previous two years.
Agnes was born April 9th, 1912 in Gladstone, the daughter of Erik M. and Lydia (Nylander) Johnson and was a lifelong Gladstone resident.
In earlier times, she worked as a store-keeper for her father, who owned and operated “Johnson Grocery Store” on Wisconsin Avenue in Gladstone for many years. Agnes married Herman J. Vandrese in 1931 and he preceded her in death August 11th, 1992.
Agnes was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Delta County, located in Gladstone. In her leisure, she was an avid cross-word puzzle enthusiast, and she also enjoyed crocheting and gardening. Agnes will be remembered as a loving, devoted mother and all her grandchildren were a great source of loving pride in her life.

Great-Grandchildren: Jeffrey Bruntjens, Dustin Christensen, and Adam Brotski
Brothers and Sisters-in-laws: Pearl (Arnold) Delvaux, Gilbert (Lorraine) Van Drese, Hazel (Walter) Madalinski; Myrtle (Art) Trombley, Evelyn (Elmer) Van Drese, Betty (Carl) Van Drese, and Leonard (Marion) Van Drese.
and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Herman, she was also preceded by a brother, Arvid (Dorothy) Johnson and by a sister, Florence Manning. Deceased in-laws include Harry (Sadie) Van Drese, Alice (Carignan) Brabazon, and Ethel Cox.
The family of Agnes Vandrese will receive friends on Wednesday at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. Services celebrating her life will follow on Wednesday at 12:00 Noon at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Hammer officiating Luncheon will follow services at the Evangelical Covenant Church Fellowship Hall in Gladstone. Burial will be in the Fernwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorials in her name be directed to the Evangelical Covenant Church. Envelopes will be available at the Skradski Funeral Home. |
