Joseph “Joe” Jedlovec Sr., age 81, of 11047 N. River Lane, Cornell, died Friday evening March 25, 2005 at the Iron Mountain V.A. Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Joe was born May 12, 1923, in Chicago, the son of Joseph and Philomenia (Kocovsky) Jedlovec who preceded him in death. He was raised in Illinois and attended and graduated from the Morton High School in Cicero. On October 11, 1941, Joe married the former Claire Lenertz in Wheaton, Ill. Claire preceded him in death on October 8, 1995. Following his marriage to Claire, Joe entered the U.S. Army serving from 1942 to 1944 in the Army Engineer Corps during WWII. Over the years, Joe worked as a carpenter for the Wal-Fil Co. out of Wheaton, Ill. and for 25 years as the Public Works Superintendent for the village of Winfield before eventually retiring to the Cornell, MI area in 1977. Joe belonged to many organizations throughout his life, such organizations included; the Escanaba Elks, Moose and Eagles Club, the Winfield Moose and Lions Club where he was known as “the best golfer they ever had” and the Winfield Volunteer Fire Department. Joe loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed belonging to the U.P. White Tails, Wildlife Unlimited and is a life member of the Escanaba River Association. Joe was a certified water/sewage plant operator and held several patents for products designed for the water works industry. He enjoyed children and is remembered for being the founder, First President and General Manager of the Winfield Boys Baseball Association. He will be deeply missed.

1 Son: Joseph (Mary) Jedlovec of Warrenville, Ill.
1 Daughter: Sandra Giambri of Schaumburg, Ill.
1 Brother: Robert (Lois) Jedlovec of Stickney, Ill.
Also surviving are 2 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Philomenia and his wife Claire.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Memorial services celebrating the life of Joseph V. Jedlovec will follow visitation, at 8:00PM, at the funeral home, with Fr. Jacek Wtyklo of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Perkins, officiating. Committal will be in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery. The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Jedlovec family with arrangements. |
