Robert Madden

Robert E. “Bob” Madden, age 76 of 1224 Minnesota Avenue; Gladstone, died peacefully Friday evening, March 18th, 2005, surrounded by his family. Bob was born April 6th, 1928 in Baraga, MI, the son of James and Cecelia Magnant and was raised in Trout Creek and was a 1946 graduate of the Trout Creek High School.

From 1946 until his honorable discharge in 1948, he served in the US Army during the Occupation of Japan.

Bob married the former Shirley V. Besonen September 15th, 1951 at St. Anthony Church in Trout Lake and together they raised six children.

After graduating from the Michigan State Police Recruit School in 1954, Bob served as a State Police Officer in Houghton Lake, Newberry, and Gladstone and retired from the force in 1978.  He continued working and was employed as an investigator for Butch; Quinn Law offices in Escanaba for 14 years.

Bob was a devout Roman Catholic and was a member of All Saints Church of Gladstone and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Brother Felix Council in Gladstone. He was an avid Detroit sports fan an ardent Lions and Tigers enthusiast and he had also enjoyed deer hunting. His family, however, was front and foremost in his life and has set this fine example for his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his loving and devoted wife, Shirley, Bob Madden leaves to survive:

3 Sons- Robert (Brenda) Madden of Manistique; Patrick (Theresa) Madden of Gladstone; Joseph (Stephanie) Madden of Richland, MI

3 Daughters-Kathy (John) Perkins of Escanaba; Lynne (Joe) Rahilly of Newberry; Terese (Darrell) Schummer of Newberry

1 Sister-Patricia (John) Mattson of Bessemer

19 grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, one brother; James Madden, and by three sisters; Violet Manning, Cecilia Bessen, and Helen Nelson.

The family of Robert E. “Bob” Madden will receive friends on Tuesday at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a Rosary being recited at 3:00 by the Knights of Columbus. Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Bob’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at All Saints Church in Gladstone with Rev. Fr. Arnold Grambow officiating. Luncheon will follow services in the All Saints Church Parish Hall. Burial will be in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery; Wells. The Skradski-Boyce Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Madden family.
