Glenn Nelson

Glenn A. Nelson, age 76, of 401 Dakota Avenue; Gladstone, died Wednesday morning, March 9th, 2005 at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba where he was a patient since Monday.

Glenn was born December 31st, 1928 in Gladstone, the son of Ollie and Esther (Lillquist) Nelson and was a lifelong Gladstone resident. After his 1946 graduation from Gladstone High School, he worked for “Hanson and Jensen Oil Co.” in Gladstone and subsequently was employed for Mead Paper for 40 years, retiring in 1990.

He married the former Elna E. Anderson July 9th, 1949 at the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone. Glenn was an active member of the First Lutheran Church of Gladstone and was a member of the church choir for many years. He also was a member of the Delta County Swedish Club and a former member of the Gladstone Yacht Club.

Glenn was a great family-man and his family was the most important aspect of his life. He and his wife, Elna, were known to have always enjoyed attending their children’s and grandchildren’s sport games. In addition, Glenn always had a love of music and was fond of playing the piano. He was a kind, gentle, and generous man and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

2 Sons-Stephen (Linda) Nelson of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; Paul (Bonnie) Nelson of Menominee, MI

1 Daughter- Lori (Michael) Marmalick of Gladstone

1 Brother- Merwin (Carol) Nelson of Washington State

1 Brother-in-law; Russell Larson of Manistee, MI

6 Grandchildren- Marc Roe, David Nelson, Adam and Eric Nelson, and Jennifer and Paul Marmalick and  nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death a sister, Marilyn Larson.

The family of Glenn A. Nelson will receive friends on Friday at the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Services celebrating Glenn’s life will follow on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church with Rev. Jonathan Schmidt  officiating. Luncheon will follow services in the First Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Burial will be in the Fernwood Cemetery. The Nelson family respectfully requests memorials in his behalf be directed to the First Lutheran Church and envelopes will be available at the church or at the Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County who are assisting the Nelson family.
