S. Eleanor Olson, age 81, of 1112 Michigan Ave.; Gladstone; died Thursday, April 28th, 2005, at home surrounded by family.
Eleanor was born December 1st, 1923 in Newberry to John and Edith (Hakola) Johnson, was raised in Newberry and was a graduate of the Newberry High School. She was employed as a judicial secretary in that area and later met a Gladstone native, John R. “Bob” Olson, while he was working in Luce County. They married June 28th, 1946 in Newberry. Eleanor and Bob subsequently relocated to Gladstone where they resided since. Bob preceded her in death October 9th, 1993.
Eleanor was an active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Delta County, located in Gladstone where she also served in “Covenant Women”. Music and singing was always a central aspect of her life and she enjoyed being a longtime member of the church choir. In earlier years, Eleanor was a member of bowling leagues in Gladstone with family and friends. Eleanor’s Finnish heritage was important to her and she could speak the Finnish language and had received much pleasure from reading her Finnish Bible. Eleanor was always a very social person and visiting with people was always joy for her whether at social functions or at home with family and friends over coffee, cookies, or her favorite Trenary toast. Her family remembers her as a most loving, caring, and helpful mother and grandmother and her family was at the center of her life.

2 Sisters-Margaret (Jerry) Lustia of Melvindale, MI; Helen (Elmer) Johnson of Munising
5 Grandchildren- Jason (Tera Welch) LaFond of Gladstone; Jennifer Roland of Escanaba; Jillian (Charles) Kievit of Escanaba; Joe and Justin Bizeau of Gladstone
7 Great-Grandchildren; Tyler, Sabrina, and Andrea LaFond; Nicholas Roland and Haley McCullough; Parker LaFond and Chloe Kievit
and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family of S. Eleanor Olson will receive friends on Sunday at the Evangelical Covenant Church, located in Gladstone, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Services celebrating Eleanor’s life will follow on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church with Dr. Steven Dosh officiating. Luncheon will follow services in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be in the Fernwood Cemetery. The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Olson family.
