Charlotte Snyder

Charlotte K. Snyder, age 74, of 4810 St. Nicholas 31st Road; Rock, died Tuesday morning, April 5th, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba where she was a patient for the previous 16 days.

Charlotte was born January 30th, 1931 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Charles and Amelia “Molly” (Jasper) Kastello and was raised in the West Allis area.

She attended St. Aloysius Catholic School and after graduating Nathan Hale High School in West Allis, she attended Marquette University in Milwaukee majoring in Liberal Arts. Charlotte had a wonderful and full operatic voice and sang in the church choir in high school and throughout much of her adult life. She married Leon Snyder October 29th, 1949 at St. Aloysius Church and together had 56 great married years together.

While in the West Allis area, Charlotte was involved in numerous civic activities, including being a longtime member of the West Allis School Board and the Republican Party in her area. She and her husband, Leon, relocated to the Rock area in 1982 moving there from Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Charlotte was a devout Christian and was a member of the Grace Baptist Church of Gladstone and the Living Faith Fellowship. Together with her husband, she played music for many churches and was part of the prison ministry with her music at Marquette State Prison and also at the Baraga Mission. Always having a generous and kind nature about her, she was involved in local civic boards and activities in addition to her church endeavors. She was known by family and friends as being very talented in crafts which included dried floral arrangements, terrariums, and oil painting. She also enjoyed watercolor painting and attended art classes at Bay de Noc Community College in Escanaba. Charlotte was the type of person who was a joy to be around and was well respected for all her natural attributes and with her love of God and family, her mark was made upon all who knew her.

In addition to her loving husband, Leon, Charlotte K. Snyder’s survivors include:

2 Sons- Scott (Rita) Snyder of Wallace, MI; Brian (Terri) Snyder of Menominee Falls, WI

3 Daughters- Pamela (Gerald) Thull of Gladstone; Molly (Jerry) Gardner of West Allis, WI; Jodi (Patrick) McKeever of Gladstone

2 Brothers- Charles (Dolores) Kastello of Waukesha, WI; Roger (Marcy) Kastello of Racine, WI

2 Sisters-Susan (Eric) Tuft of Monroe, Utah; Marie (Gary) Kumershek of Racine, WI

a sister-in-law, Ruth Kastello, of Waukesha, WI

21 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Kastello.

The family of Charlotte Snyder will receive friends on Friday at the Grace Baptist Church in Gladstone from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Services celebrating her life will follow on Friday at 5:00 p.m. at the Grace Baptist Church with Dr. Stephen Patrick officiating. Luncheon will follow services in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be in the Perkins Cemetery. The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Snyder family.
