James P. Cleary, age 75, of 8890 North Pt. 75 Lane; Gladstone, died Friday, May 13th, 2005 at the Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers where he was a patient for the previous week. Jim was born March 27th, 1930 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the son of John and Ethel (Grubord) Cleary and was raised in Green Bay.
After graduating from the Green Bay School System, he entered the U.S. Navy and served during World War II in the Pacific Theater with the Navy submarine forces. Jim remained with the Navy for an interval of time and retired as Senior Chief Petty Officer E-8 and subsequently returned to Wisconsin.
He was employed as a truck driver for an extended period before being employed for “Cruisers Corp.” in Oconto, Wisconsin where he also resided for a while. Jim retired at age 65 and relocated to Gladstone seven years ago.
Jim was an active member of the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post #71 and was its’ finance officer for five years. Additionally, he was involved in numerous Post projects including the Veterans Memorial Wall in Gladstone. Jim was also a member of the 40 et 8 and Escanaba Eagles. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, camping, and was known as an avid boating enthusiast.

4 Daughters- Linda (Danny) Schneider of Wisconsin; Linda (Billy) Borah of Wisconsin; Roxanne (Gary Hoyer) Cleary of North Carolina; Brenda (Page) Waterfield of Virginia
Grandchildren, great-grandchildren, special friends, and an aunt, Noreen Cormier, of Green Bay, WI
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael.
The family of James P. Cleary will receive friends on Wednesday at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Military Rites will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. by the Gladstone American Legion. Services celebrating Jim’s life will follow the Military Rites on Wednesday at the Skradski Funeral Home with his daughter, Linda Borah, officiating. Luncheon will follow services at the Gladstone American Legion.
