Doreen J. ”Dovey” Mercier, age 75, of 12648 Hwy US 2; Rapid River (Nahma Township) died Saturday, May 28, 2005, at home following a lengthy illness.
Dovey was born July 20th, 1929 in Gladstone, the daughter of Fred and Opal (Pierce) LeClaire and was raised in Gladstone. She married Albert “Beno” Mercier September 25th, 1948 in Nahma. “Beno” died January 20th, 2003.
Her work career included employment at Marble Arms Corp. in Gladstone and later at Woolworths in Escanaba for many years. After retiring from Woolworths, she worked at the St. Jacques Store on a part-time basis.
Dovey enjoyed playing “Bingo” and crocheting. She especially like to watch wildlife and spent many hours through the years joy-riding with family and friends in search of animals and birds to admire. Her family remembers her as enjoying life and her love was felt by all family, especially her grandchildren whom she always adored spending time with. She will be sadly missed but will always be loved and admired.

A daughter-in-law, Peggy Mercier, of Escanaba
1 Brother-Frank LeClaire of Isabella
1 Sister-Lillian (Maynard) Mast of Rapid River
5 Grandchildren-Val Mackie, Gina Lynts, Scott Mercier, Jason Mercier, Eric Mercier
7 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, and her husband, “Beno”, Dovey was preceded in death by an infant daughter; a son, Rick, in 1993; four brothers, Keith, Donald, Richard, and William LeClaire; and by two sisters, Kathleen Lyda and Donna Cartwright. She was also preceded in death by a special friend, Emil Groleau, May 6th, 2005.
The family of Doreen J. “Dovey” Mercier will receive friends on Tuesday at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Services celebrating Dovey’s life will follow on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home with Deacon Rod Groleau officiating. Luncheon will follow services Tuesday evening at the Nahma Township Hall. Burial will be in the Fernwood Cemetery. The Skradski-Boyce Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Mercier family.
