Carl Johnson

Carl L. “Bummy” Johnson, age 78, of 1403 Minneapolis Avenue, Gladstone, died Friday morning August 12, 2005 at the Marquette General Hospital where he had been a patient for the past 6 weeks.
Carl was born April 28, 1927, in Gladstone, the son of Carl W. and Lillie (Holmberg) Johnson. He was raised in Gladstone and attended the Gladstone schools. Following his years in school, Carl entered the United States Navy, serving during the WWII era. On May 3, 1958, Carl married the former Idabelle Bink and together the couple made their home and raised their family in Gladstone. Throughout the years, Carl worked for the Soo Line Railroad and retired in 1990 from Mead Paper Company. Carl was a member of the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post #71. He
belonged to the Gladstone Yacht Club, The Trails End Trap Club and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include: Carl’s wife of 47 years, Idabelle.

1 Son: Craig (Margaret) Johnson of Gladstone, MI

2 Daughters: Kay (Tom) Babcock of Marquette, MI; Sally (James) Tardiff of Gladstone, MI

1 Brother: James (Nancy) Johnson of Gladstone, MI

2 Sisters: Lillian Strom of Gladstone, MI; Joyce Norden of Gladstone, MI

Survivors also include, 6 grandchildren: Betsy and Alex Babcock of Marquette, Matt Johnson of Minneapolis, MN, Kristin Johnson of Gladstone, and Annie and Emily Tardiff of Gladstone. Several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carl was preceded in death by father Carl on November 11, 1987 and by his mother Lillie on May 8, 1998.

Family will receive friends on Monday from 3:00PM to 5:25 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Gladstone American Legion Post #71 Military rites will follow at 5:25 P.M. Funeral services celebrating the life of Carl L. “Bummy” Johnson will follow on Monday at 6:00PM at the All Saints Church in Gladstone with Fr. Arnold Grambow and Rev. Peter Strom officiating. Luncheon will be in the All Saints Church parish hall following mass. The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Johnson family with arrangements.
