William Shine

William “Bill” S. Shine, age 88, of 2722 South Hill Road, Gladstone, MI died Saturday afternoon August 13, 2005 at the Christian Park Village in Escanaba where he was a patient.

William was born August 1, 1917 in Detroit, MI the son of William and Margaret (Hansen) Shine. He was raised and attended school in the Detroit area. Following graduation from High School he served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Sault Ste. Marie. While serving in the U.S. Army he met and married the former Mary Stimic on September 29, 1939. Following their marriage they resided in Detroit from 1940 to 1948 where Bill worked for the Excello’s Corporation. In 1948 they moved to Painesdale and in 1953 relocated to Houghton. Bill worked at various auto shops in Houghton as an auto body repairman including Johnson’s, Komula’s, Evert’s, Northern Auto and Bruno’s. He also owned and operated Bill’s Body Shop in Houghton from 1956 to 1977. Following his retirement in 1980 they relocated to Atlantic Mine. In addition to motorcycling and snowmobiling, Bill’s hobbies included hunting and fishing.

In addition to his wife Mary, survivors include:

2 Sons: William (Kathy) Shine of Gladstone; James Shine of Milwaukee, WI

1 Daughter: Dianne (Bob) Dost of Mason Neck, VA

5 Grandchildren: Larry, Laurie Shine Hallock, William, Kyle and Lauren

2 Great Grandchildren: William and Andrew

Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his twin brother Charles and a sister Margaret Kopeken.

According to Bill’s wishes no visitation or services will be held.
