Francis Gilbert “Bert” Youngs, age 86, of 1222 Michigan Avenue, Gladstone, died Tuesday August 30, 2005 at his home in Gladstone.
Bert was born October 22, 1918, in Iron River, the son of David and Rena (Lucas) Youngs. Bert was raised in Iron River and attended and graduated from the Iron River schools in 1936. Following high school, Bert went on to attend and graduate from Michigan Tech. University. After college, Bert was drafted into the United States Army, serving as a captain during the WWII era, where he was stationed in France and Germany. In 1945, he married the former Carmen (Meyers) in Florence, WI. Together the couple resided in Sault Ste. Marie before eventually relocating to the Gladstone area. Upon moving to Gladstone, Bert went to work for Mac Gillis and Gibbs Lumber Company, retiring at the age of 62. Carmen preceded Bert in death in 2002. Bert belonged to the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post #71, for 62 years. He enjoyed playing cards, watching the Green Bay Packers football team and pulling pranks on family members and friends. Bert loved to cook for family and friends making salted nuts, caramel corn and many other various edible gifts. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

2 Daughters: Carol (Alan) Tuomisto of Waynesboro, VA; Beth (Lee) Rothstein of Merrimack, NH
1 Sister: Elizabeth Hagberg of Okemos, MI
6 Grandchildren: Jorma, Sampsa and Anna Tuomisto, Katie (Peter) Hugh, Bryan and Aubrey Youngs
1 Great Grandson: Oliver Hugh
Survivors also include, nieces, nephews and cousins
In addition to his parents, David and Rena and his wife of 57 years, Carmen, Bert was preceded in death by:

Private committal services will be held on Tuesday at the Gardens of Rest Cemetery, in Wells, with Rev. Ellen Jensen of the Trinity Episcopal Church, located in Gladstone, officiating. Memorial contributions honoring the life of Bert Youngs may be directed to the Trinity Episcopal Church. The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Youngs family with arrangements.
