Doris Lacosse

Died September 25, 2005

Doris E. LaCosse, age 76, former Escanaba resident and currently residing in Rochester, Michigan died Sunday evening, September 25th, 2005, at Beaumont Memorial Hospital in Troy, Michigan.

Doris was born May 4th, 1929 in Ironwood, Michigan, the daughter of Blaz and Albena (LaCasse) Tomaich and was raised in Ironwood. She moved to Milwaukee as child with her parents and later graduated from high school in Milwaukee.

Doris married Elroy C. LaCosse in November of 1946 in Milwaukee and subsequently relocated to Escanaba where they owned and operated a mink ranch for many years. In addition, she was employed as a book-keeper for Bichler Concrete and Gravel for 15 years, retiring in 1980. Her husband, Elroy, preceded her in death in 1975.

Doris was a member of St. Anne Church of Escanaba. Her family remembers her as a person who loved keeping busy and she enjoyed cooking, baking, knitting, and making ceramics. In addition, Doris was a wonderful seamstress. Doris was also known to her family as an unselfish and independent individual and as a devoted grandmother. Her grandchildren considered her a “classy lady” in the finest sense of the words.

Doria E. LaCosse’s survivors include:

4 Sons: Richard LaCosse of Escanaba; Thomas (Jeanne) LaCosse of Okemas, MI; Stephen (Alice) LaCosse of Escanaba; Daniel (Debra) LaCosse of Gledale, Arizona

2 Daughters: Linda (James) Norgart of Rochester, MI; Patricia (Tom) Eugate of Gladstone

1 Brother: Raymond (Peg Tomaich) Tomaich of Milwaukee

3 Sisters: Lucille Sodolski of Milwaukee; Gloria (Robert) Simms of Milwaukee; Elizabeth Steffes of Southern Pines, North Carolina

12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews

In addition to her parents and her husband, Elroy, she was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Tomaich, and two grandchildren, Lonnie LaCosse and Logan Johnston

The family of Doris E. LaCosse will receive friends at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Friday at 6:00 p.m. at St. Anne Church in Escanaba with Rev. Fr. Jose Maramattam officiating. Luncheon will follow services in the St. Anne Parish Hall. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery; Escanaba.
