Mae K. “Toots” Johnson, 83, formerly of 2131 25th Avenue South, Escanaba, entered eternal life Monday afternoon, October 24, 2005, at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee, where she had resided since January 2003.
Mae was born May 5, 1922 in Perkins, a daughter of the late Felix and Mae (Young) Miljour and was raised in Perkins. She was a graduate of the Perkins High School and salutatorian of the Class of 1940. On May 11, 1945 she married Denman B. Johnson in Austin, Texas, where he was serving in the US Army Air Corps. Following his honorable discharge, the couple returned to Escanaba where together they made their home and raised their family. A homemaker, Mae enjoyed time spent with family, especially her grandchildren. Her hobbies and interests included being an avid BINGO participant, sewing, and playing cards.

Son: Michael (Mary) Johnson of Gladstone
Grandchildren: Amanda and Andrew Umstead;Heather (Jim) Johnson; Nicholas Johnson
Great-grandson: Carter Johnson
Several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Denman, on September 7, 1983; step-father, Cal Pillote; her infant sister, Bonnie Miljour, a sister, Evelyn Norman; and brothers, Felix, Leo, Lyle, Oliver, and Earl Miljour.
Friends may call at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home, Escanaba, on Thursday, October 27, from 3:00 to 5:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anne’s Catholic Church at 6:00 pm Thursday evening with Rev. Michael Steber as celebrant. A reception for family and friends will follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be made at the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
