Walter Wood Salisbury, of 945 Sheridan Road, died Monday January 2, 2006 at his home, in Escanaba, at the age of 84.
Walter was born January 6, 1921, in Windsor-Essex Ontario, Canada, the son of William and Lyda (Wood) Salisbury. He was raised most of his life in the Detroit area and attended the Detroit schools. On April 6, 1943, Walter was drafted into the United States Army AirForce, serving as a Ball Turret Gunner on a B-24 Liberator under the base command of Jimmy Stewart, during WWII. Throughout his enlistment, Walter received various medals of accommodation for his service to his country. He was honorably discharged from the Army AirForce on November 15, 1945. Twelve years later, Walter was issued his American citizenship (Certificate of Naturalization) by the U.S. government for his service in the U.S. armed forces. On April 18, 1964, he married the former Martha A. Messineo in Detroit, MI and together the couple remained in Lincoln Park (Detroit) until moving to Escanaba in 1985. Walter was employed as a truck driver for most of his life, retiring in 1971, after 30 plus years from the Great Lakes Express. Walter was an Army AirForce WWII veteran and a life time member of the V.F.W. He enjoyed playing golf, euchre, cribbage and watching the Detroit Red Wings.

3 Daughters: Peggy (Richard) Gibbs of Dearborn Heights, MI; Kim (Dennis) Fox of Dearborn Heights, MI; Linda Llker
2 Step-daughters: Sharon (Kerry) McLenon of Grosseile, MI; Carol Temperley of Columbia, TN
Also included in the list of survivors are 17 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and Walter’s former wife, Margaret Markey.
In addition to his parents, William and Lyda, Walter was preceded in death by: 1 Brother: Jon Morris
Family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00PM to 6:00PM at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba. Military rites honoring Walter Salisbury will follow visitation, at 6:00PM, by the Delta County Veteran’s Council. Family will again receive friends on Monday from 2:00PM to 4:00PM at the C. Stuart Sykes Funeral Home in Kingsville Ontario, Canada. Military rites will be conducted at the Sykes Funeral Home following visitation at 4:00PM. Interment will be in the Greenhill Cemetery in Kingsville.
