Mary A. Vargo, age 93, formerly of 424 Lake Shore Drive; Gladstone, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 9th, 2006 at Parkside Care Center in Little Chute, WI with her niece, Deanne Anderson, at her side.

Due to failing health, she had been a resident at “Parkside” for the previous 3 years.

Mary was born in Kipling, MI on June 14th, 1912, the daughter of John and Anna  (Fabian) Vargo and grew up in the Kipling area. She was employed in local veneer plants in Gladstone during her teens.

After moving to Detroit in the1930’s, she worked at Packard Motors during the war years. However, Mary was most proud of her 30 years of employment at Parke Davis Pharmaceuticals in Detroit. She attributed her good health to Parke Davis vitamins.

Upon her retirement in 1974, she returned directly to the shores of Gladstone and spent many happy years visiting with her childhood friends. Mary was an active member of All Saints Church of Gladstone and loved it when a parish member would visit her. 

Mary was preceded in death by her sisters: Catherine and Ann; and brothers: John, George, Steve, Mike, Joe, and Matt. She has one surviving brother, Andrew “Shorty” Vargo, of Marquette, MI. In addition, she has many surviving nieces and nephews and will always be “Aunt Mary” to their children.

The family wishes to express many thanks to the “Parkside” staff and Aunt Mary’s roommates, especially Maggie, for their care and friendship.   

The family of Mary A. Vargo will receive friends on Monday at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Monday at 12:30 p.m. at All Saints Church with Rev. Fr. Arnold Grambow officiating. Burial will be in the Fernwood Cemetery. The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting Mary’s family.
