June Nelson

June M. Nelson, age 80, of 9423 N.5 Road, Gladstone, died Wednesday March 29, 2006 at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.

June was born June 5, 1925, in Escanaba, the daughter of John and Pearl (Eagle) Caswell. 
She was raised in Gladstone and attended and graduated from the Gladstone High School.  Following school, June worked in a defense factory, in Wisconsin, making supplies for the Armed Forces during WWII.  In November of 1946, June married Bert Nelson and together the couple resided in many areas before finally settling in the Gladstone area where they raised their family.  Bert preceded June in death on May 9, 1983.  In addition to raising her family, June was employed at Eaton’s Manufacturing, Bryers Restaurant and the Do Drop Inn.  June enjoyed cooking, canning, playing cribbage and poker and taking trips to the casino.  She loved having holiday meals with her family and in her younger years, singing and playing the piano.  She enjoyed all kinds wildlife and is remembered for feeding the deer and birds. 

Survivors include:

2 Sons:  Steve (Dorothy) Nelson of Gladstone, MI; Randy (Shirley) Nelson of Gladstone, MI

1 Brother:  Nolan (Evelyn) Caswell of Rapid River, MI

3 Sisters:  Betty (Don) Hendrickson of Gladstone, MI; Helen Belongie of Gladstone, MI; Margaret Beauchamp of Wisconsin

4 Grandchildren:  Chad (Kris) Nelson, Amanda Nelson, Brandi Nelson and Andrew (Sheri) Nelson
4 Great Grandchildren:  Parker, Sydnee, Luke and Trevor

Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins

In addition to her parents, John and Pearl and her husband Bert, June was preceded in death by:

3 Brothers:  Albert, Jack and infant brother Robert

1 Sister:  Charlotte

Family will receive friends on Sunday from 3:00PM to 5:00PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.  Funeral services celebrating the life of June Nelson will follow visitation, at 5:00PM, at the Skradski Funeral Home, with Pastor Brent Parrish of the Our Savior Lutheran Church, in Escanaba, officiating.  Luncheon will be at the Our Savior Lutheran Church fellowship hall.  Committal will be in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.
