Evelyn I. Larson, age 85, formerly of Rock and currently residing at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility, died early morning April 27, 2006 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming.
Evelyn was born March 9, 1921, at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba, the daughter of Albert and Florence (Chenail) Juneau. She was raised in Osier and attended and graduated from the Rock schools. In 1943, Evelyn married Leslie A. Viitala at the Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, MO. In 1949, Evelyn acquired employment, as a cook, for the Rock schools. Leslie Viitala preceded her in death on June 24, 1959. Evelyn continued to work for the Rock schools and on June 19, 1965, she married Leslie N. Larson and together the couple made their home in Rock. Evelyn retired from the Rock School System in the late 1970’s. Her husband Leslie Larson preceded her in death on July 10, 1982. Evelyn was a life long member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Perkins. She was a charter member of the Rock American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Post #559 for 52 years. She enjoyed playing cards, walking, cooking and in her earlier years, dancing. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and various forms of craftwork. She loved spending time with her family, especially her three grandchildren, Darrin, Daniel and Lesley. She will be deeply missed.

1 Sister: Geraldine Riemer of Osier, MI
3 Grandchildren: Darrin (Theresa), Daniel and Lesley Viitala
5 Great Grandchildren: Easton, Montanna, Hunter, Cameron and McKenzie
Special Niece: Cheryl (Larry) Armstrong of Waukegan, IL
Also listed among the surviving family are several additional nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Albert and Florence, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husbands, Leslie A. Viitala and Leslie N. Larson.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Perkins. Funeral services celebrating the life of Evelyn I. Larson will follow visitation, at 11:00AM, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Jacek Wtyklo officiating. Committal rites and Rock American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #559 military rites will be conducted at the Rock Cemetery following funeral services. Luncheon will be held at the Rock American Legion following committal. The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Larson family with arrangements.
