Agnes Parkkila, age 82, of 13117 Friday Road, Rapid River, MI died Wednesday morning April 26, 2006 at the Christian Park Village in Escanaba where she was a resident.

Agnes was born May 13, 1923 in Marquette the daughter of Harry and Alice (Howe) Caine. She was raised in Marquette and she was a 1940 graduate of Bishop Baraga High School in Marquette. Following graduation she had worked for the Guelff Printing Company until her marriage to William E. Parkkila in 1944. They made their home in Shelter Bay until William took employment in Akron, OH. They than returned to the U.P. where they resided in Sundell until William’s death in 1995. Agnes returned to Marquette where she resided for one year before moving in with her daughter Beverly in Rapid River.

Agnes was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Trenary and her hobbies included sewing, making crafts and baking. She loved camping, especially with her husband and family.

Survivors include:

1 Son: William (Helen) Parkkila of Mountain Home, Idaho

1 Daughter: Beverly (Louis) Terrian of Rapid River

4 Grandchildren: Troy Edwards of Sundell; Travis (Dana) Edwards of Cumming, GA; William and Genie Parkkila of Mountain Home, Idaho.

1 great granddaughter: Ryan Jo Edwards of Sundell

In addition to her parents and husband William, Agnes was preceded in death by:

Brother: Gary Boyer

Grand daughter: Traci Edwards in 1989

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday May 10, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham. A memorial mass service will follow at 12:00 noon at the St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Trenary with Rev. Fr. Jacek Wtyklo officiating. A luncheon will follow services in the church parish hall.
