Charlotte B. Tousignant, age 93, of 2722 South Hill Road #61, Gladstone died Thursday April 27, 2006 at the Emmons Adult Care Home in Hyde where she had been a resident.
Charlotte was born September 1, 1912 in the village of Schaffer, MI, the daughter of Joseph and Blanche (Provost) Seymour. She was raised in Schaffer and attended the Schaffer schools until the completion of her 10th grade year, at which time, she transferred to Kingsford High School to complete the last two years of her high school education. Following high school, Charlotte began her teaching career, gaining a portion of her education from the Delta County Normal School and eventually gaining employment for the Delta County Normal School where she taught for a period of three years. Charlotte married Thomas E. Tousignant in February of 1933 and together the couple made their home and raised their family in Schaffer. Thomas preceded her in death on March 6, 1960. Once Charlotte’s three children reached elementary school (third, fourth and fifth grade) Charlotte was called back to teaching and continued to teach throughout the years still chipping away at her education by taking extension and correspondence courses. Once her children were grown, Charlotte completed her education receiving her Bachelor’s Degree, in July of 1964, from Northern Michigan University. Charlotte eventually began teaching third grade at the Bark River-Harris Elementary School retiring from Bark River-Harris in 1972 after 31 years of employment. Throughout the years, Charlotte is remembered for teaching many children including, one brother and all three of her children. Charlotte was a member of the Escanaba Eagles Club, MARSP, AARP and the NRTA. She enjoyed traveling to Canada and throughout the United States. She is remembered for her hand made rag rugs in which she donated to family, friends and St. Vincent DePaul. She loved taking trips to the casino, playing cards and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

1 Sister: Theresa (Clyde) VanEnkevort of Gladstone, MI
1 Sister in law: Gladys Seymour of Flint, MI
Also listed among the surviving family are several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Joseph and Blanche and her husband Thomas, Charlotte was preceded in death by:
4 Brothers: Edward, Henry, Hubert and Roy Seymour
2 Sisters: Arlene Taylor and Gertrude Tousignant
1 Grandson: Robert Tousignant
Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2:00PM to 4:30PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services celebrating the life of Charlotte B. Tousignant will follow visitation, at 5:00PM, at the All Saints Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Arnold Grambow officiating. Luncheon will follow in the All Saints Parish Hall. Committal will be on Wednesday at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Schaffer. The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Tousignant family with arrangements.
