Lillian Lorraine Whipple, age 92, of 1433 Ackley Street (P.O. Box 12); Rapid River, died Saturday, April 15th, 2006 at the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba where she was a patient since October.
Lorraine, as she was most commonly known, was born October 25th, 1913 in Rapid River, the daughter of Swedish immigrants, Guy and Lillian (Johnson) Edgar and she was a lifelong Rapid River resident.
She married Myron O. Whipple, December 4th, 1937 at the Congregational Church of Rapid River and he preceded her in death in 1993.
Lorraine was a member of the Grace Baptist Church of Gladstone and an associate member of the Rapid River Congregational Church. The children of the Rapid River community referred to her as “Aunt Lorraine” much of her life because she was a well known, much called-upon, and much appreciated baby-sitter for the community for many years. Walking was a particular joy and avid habit for Lorraine and she could always be seen walking in her area for many, many years, even with her “walker” in latter times. She also enjoyed berry-picking and baking.
Lorraine Whipple’s survivors include:
2 Sons- Robert (De De) Whipple of South Range, MI; David (Kathryn) Whipple of Cincinnati, Ohio
1 Sister- Iola Feathers of Rapid River
5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Myron, she was preceded in death by three sisters;
Myrtle Beauchamp, Benine Fox, and Wilda Anderson.
