Frederick J. “Fred” Neurohr, age 80, of 9513 Hwy, M-35; Gladstone (Brampton area) died quietly early Saturday morning, May 13th, 2006 at home surrounded by his family. Fred was born in Perkins, MI, on May 30th, 1925 to Frederick and Helen (Gerou) Neurohr and later moved to the Gladstone area with his family and attended Hyde and Brampton schools and graduated from the Gladstone High School.
From1944 to 1946, he served his country with the U.S. Navy and after his honorable discharge, Fred and his Uncle Chester formed “C & F Neurohr Jewelry” in Gladstone. In addition he was employed at Harnischfeger Corp. in Escanaba from 1949 to 1962 as a machinist inspector.
In 1957, he established and owned and operated “Neurohr Jewelers” at 922 Delta Avenue in Gladstone and was engaged in business at that location until his illness.
Fred educational background was extensive. He received an Associate Degree from Bay de Noc Community College, and later earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Northern Michigan University in Marquette. He attended Michigan Technological University in Houghton for machinist training. Additionally, he attended numerous classes, seminars, and group training sessions in gem science. His proficiency in watch and clock repair came natural to him since he started to repair watches at age 7, and he was well known for his professional abilities.
His family remembers him as loving his business and his love of teaching to others. The Intermediate School District, Manistique Schools, and Bay College are several institutions where he has taught.
Fred was a member of the Perkins American Legion and was the Commander of that Post for a period of time and was a lifetime member of the Amvets. Also, he was a lifetime member of the Escanaba VFW Post and a life and founding member of the Brother Felix Council Knights of Columbus of Gladstone where he served as the first Grand Knight. The Watchmakers Guild and the State of Michigan Board of Horology are other organizations where he held memberships. In his leisure, Fred enjoyed “Bingo”.

His loving and devoted wife, the former Ramona Dahn, whom he married July 1st, 1950 at St. Joseph Church in Perkins.

1 Granddaughter-Stephanie
1 Brother- Rev. Fr. Gilbert Neurohr of Escanaba
and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Neurohr.
The family of Fred Neurohr will received friends on Wednesday at the St. Joseph Church in Perkins from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Fr. Gilbert Neurohr, Rev. Fr. Jacek Wtykio, and Rev. Fr. Arnold Grambow officiating. Luncheon will follow services in the Church Fellowship Hall. Burial will be in the Fernwood Cemetery.
