Virginia M. Albrecht, age 84, of 1721 Dakota Avenue, Gladstone, MI died Wednesday morning June 21, 2006 at home following a lengthy illness.
Virginia was born August 15, 1921 in Pound, WI the daughter of Wilfred Nelson and Jennie (Fluessus) LeClair. She was raised in Green Bay, WI where she attended and graduated from the St. Joseph Academy. Virginia continued her education and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1944. Following her graduation she worked as the Director of Rehabilitation at the Pinecrest Sanitarium in Powers from 1945 to 1948. She was united in marriage on January 27, 1947 to Charles “Mike” Albrecht and in 1957 they moved to Gladstone where they raised their family.
In addition to raising her children she worked for a time at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba where she was in charge of housekeeping and also she worked for the Escanaba Daily Press as a proof reader. Following many years of working for the State of Michigan at the Delta County Department of Social Services she retired in 1982. After her retirement she volunteered at the Gladstone Public Library and also participated in many bridge clubs. She was a member of the Gladstone Child’s Welfare, All Saints Church and her hobbies included reading, sewing and working crossword puzzles.
Survivors include:
3 sons: Michael (Marilyn) Albrecht of Gladstone, Peter (Sandy) Albrecht of Ford River, MI, Fred Albrecht of Fond Du Lac, WI
1 daughter: Elizabeth (Robert) Meerstein of Cornell, MI
10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and a granddog and companion, Lucy Ann Meerstein.

According to Virginia’s wishes, private visitation and funeral services will be conducted at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone with Rev. Arnold Grambow of the All Saints Church officiating. Burial will be in the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.
