The Soo Line “Call Boy” made one last call for Clarence “Clancy” Carriere, on Monday morning September 4, 2006 at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette where he had been a resident for the past year.
Clarence was born December 22, 1920 in Gladstone the son of Steven and Matilda (DeMarsh) Carriere Sr. Following graduation from Gladstone High School, Clancy served in the CCC’s before serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. During WWII Clancy was one of the few Marines serving on the USS Enterprise Aircraft Carrier in the Pacific Theatre.
Clancy is remembered for always having his tobacco pipe on hand, enjoying a smooth smoke while cutting firewood and cedar posts. He was an avid outdoorsman, spending time hunting at his hunting camp, “2 Forty”, and fishing during the summer months at his cabin on Round Lake. Clancy enjoyed water skiing(to the age of 71), and wintering with his wife Eleanor in the state of Texas. He served many years as secretary/treasurer for the United Transportation Union. Clancy was a member of All Saints Church in Gladstone and the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post #71. He retired from the Soo Line Railroad in 1980.
Survivors include his wife, the former Eleanor Carlson whom he married on February 21, 1953.

1 great granddaughter: Lilly Groberman of Seattle, WA

Clancy’s family will receive friends on Thursday from 3:00 P.M. to 5:45 P.M. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Gladstone American Legion Post #71 Military Rites will follow at 5:45 P.M. Funeral services celebrating the life of Clarence “Clancy” Carriere will follow at 6:00 P.M. at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev. Arnold Grambow of All Saints Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Clancy may be directed to the Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, envelopes will be available at the Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Home.
