Vernon Dahn

Vernon C. Dahn, age 85, of 10923 M35 Hwy, Gladstone passed away Friday, September 15, 2006 at the Clement J. Zablocki V.A. Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Vernon was born July 15, 1921 in Gladstone the son of Otto and Lillian (Johnson) Dahn. He was a lifelong resident of Gladstone. He was united in marriage to Goldie Marie Jones on August 7, 1943 at the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone.

He worked at Independent Roofing for over 15 years and was a welder at Harnischfeger Inc. from 1964 until his retirement in 1980. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He especially enjoyed gardening which he did all his life. He planted and grew pumpkins for the Head Start Program for 10 years. Vernon was a loving and caring family man and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Vernon served his country proudly in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre of World War II. He fought during the Philippine Campaign, the Philippine Liberation Campaign and the New Guinea Campaign. During his service he received 3 Bronze Battle Stars, a Purple Heart, the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, the Philippine Theatre Ribbon, the Good Conduct Ribbon and the American Theatre Ribbon.

In addition to his wife Goldie, survivors include:

1 Daughter: Jean (Roger Sr.) Anderson of Escanaba

4 Brothers: Bill (Doris) Dahn of Gladstone, Dayton Dahn of Gladstone, Garland Dahn of Gladstone, Courtney (Margaret) Dahn of Felch, MI

2 Sisters: Muriel Bruntjens of Gladstone, Ramona Neurohr of Gladstone

6 Grandchildren: Roger Anderson Jr., Susan (Brett)

Huybers, Rhonda (John) Tebo, Jamie Dahn, Lynn, (Greg) Woelffer, Victor Dahn

6 Great Grandchildren: Melissa, Ashley, Duane Jr, Brittany, Casey, Evan

3 Great- Great Grandchildren: Ivy, Callie, Brooke

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister-Tina Dahn, a granddaughter-Brenda Anderson and a great grandson-Jeffrey Williams.

Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will be held.
