Toivo “Pa” Hill, age 97, of the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba (formerly of Rock) died
Wednesday morning September 27, 2006 at the Christian Park Health Care Center. Toivo was born March 30, 1909 in Ironwood, MI to Charles and Selma (Siirila) Hill. He spent most of his life working as a woodsman in the lumber industry. Toivo met his first wife, Hilma Salo, in the lumber camps where he worked. She was working as a cook. They were united in marriage on October 20, 1928. Toivo followed the lumber industry wherever the work was to be done. This was commonly known as “Jobbing”. “Jobbing” brought Toivo to the Rock area in the 1930's where he made his home and lived with his beloved wife until she passed on June 11, 1995. Toivo also worked as a carpenter and built
several houses in his lifetime. He was very intelligent and mechanically creative. He could build anything when he put his mind to it and had a strong will and determination. This kept him working late into his life. Toivo was a compassionate family man and a devoted Christian. He spent a lot of time reading the bible. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved playing practical jokes.
Toivo is survived by:
