Frances E. “Babe” Nelson, age 95, passed from this world, Sunday September 24, 2006 at her home at Northwoods Assisted Living, to join her husband Walter in eternal life.
Fran was born September 22, 1911, in Manistique, the daughter of Henry and Frances (Weber) Jahn. She was raised in Manistique and attended and graduated from the Manistique schools. On December 24, 1943, Fran married Walter T. Nelson, in California, and together the couple eventually made their home and raised their family, in Manistique. Fran and Walter relocated to Escanaba in 1964 where Fran enjoyed a large circle of friends including many wonderful friends at Northwoods Assisted Living where she had resided for the past 8 years of her life. Walter preceded her in death on November 6, 1998. Fran enjoyed bowling, playing bridge, traveling with Walter during the winter season to Punta Gorda, FL and playing cribbage with Walter and family, where she always seemed to have an ace card handy when she needed one. She enjoyed playing golf, even golfing the day after her 85th birthday. Fran is remembered for exhibiting a strong sense of independence and sense of humor throughout her life. She was a loving and devoted partner to Walter during their 55 years of marriage and will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by family and friends.
