Wallace Andrew “Wally” Nelson, age 70, of 14394 25.75 Road, Rapid River, MI died Monday September 4, 2006 at the Marquette General Hospital in Marquette following a lengthy illness.
Wallace was born March 22, 1936 in Escanaba, MI the son of Helmer and Edith (Lake) Nelson. He was raised in Isabella and attended school in Garden, Cooks and Nahma. Wally was united in marriage on December 7, 1957 to the former LaVerda Pilon at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Isabella. They made their home in Isabella where they raised their family and worked their dairy farm. Wally also worked construction for Payne & Dolen and Bacco Construction Companies.
His hobbies included working his farm, woodworking and making crafts. Wally was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Nahma.

2 Sons: Willie (Bonnie) Nelson of Rapid River; Ron (Clarine) Nelson of Garden Corners
2 Daughters: Roseanne (Raymond) Massey of St. Ignace, MI; Ann (Todd) Segerstrom of DePere, WI
2 Brothers: Art (Amy) Nelson of Gladstone; Teddy Nelson of Isabella
2 Sisters: Ida (Jerry) Campbell of Escanaba; Esther Longhurst of Escanaba
8 Grandchildren: James, Jenny, Linnea, Calvin, Chris, Justin, R.C. and Cassie.
4 Great Grandchildren: Sidonie, Nicklas, Shaun and Maizie
Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant brother, William and sister, Gloria.
Wally’s family will receive friends on Friday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 P.M. at the St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Nahma. Mass of Christian Burial Services celebrating the life of Wallace Nelson will follow at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Fr. Joseph Varickamackal and Deacon Rod Groleau officiating. Burial will follow services at the Moss Lake Cemetery. A luncheon will follow committal services at the Isabella Township Hall.
